Abstract

Background. The study of the Russian students’ worldview, the processes of formation of the inner world of student youth in the 19th – early 20th centuries is aimed at identifying the features of the psychological make-up of the most active part of Russian society. The age characteristics of students allow us to speak about the similarity of the processes of formation of the worldview both at the beginning of the 20th century and to-day’s, youth. The purpose of the work is to study the internal mechanisms of young stu-dents’ motivation in a choice situation, in the decision-making process. Materials and methods. The work is written, within the framework of the methodology of everyday life and highlights the influence of various ideological and material factors on the formation of the inner world of students, the formation of such key concepts for young people as faith and death. A large place in the article is occupied, by the analysis of memoirs and fiction. A lot of studentsʼ reflections on this topic testify to the importance of these categories in the formation of the worldview of young people. The source base of the study was also a sig-nificant corpus of journalism, covering the problems of youth from various positions. Results. The study deals with the problem of mortality among young people and the causes leading to the death of young people, the dynamics of this phenomenon in different decades of the 19th century is traced. The process of formation of a youthful worldview under the influence of various circumstances is studied, including the degree of influence of radical teachings on student youth, which formed in a certain part of the youth the desire to die for the good of the people. The spiritual search of youth, the perception of religion and faith from different worldview positions, spiritual quests, as well as the transformation of beliefs in the process of learning and gaining life experience are analyzed. Conclusions. Many fac-tors influenced the inner world and spiritual development of young people: material prob-lems, features of the system of education and upbringing at the university, as well as forms of leisure activities for students. The formation of the beliefs of the future intelligentsia took place largely through the comprehension of religious beliefs and dogmas, their influ-ence on the life and death of a person. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, it is possible to trace the evolution of the worldview of students and highlight the beliefs and values common to most young people in various university cities that have changed over the peri-od under study.
